You Don't Choose Your Desires, They Choose You!

Many people wonder where their desires come from. Are they God's desires? Individual desires? The truth is, even when we don't know where it is that they originate, the fact is, we have them. They can't be ignored. The challenge most people face is, they are afraid to act upon their innate desires because of beliefs they have accumulated through out the years.

If we look at each individual, we notice that everyone is drawn to so many different things. From the simplest to the more complex. Some love medicine while others enjoy gardening. Some love science while others love spirituality. Some love to fly while others prefer to drive. Some create great music while others are business geniuses, and the list grows endless.

There is so much diversity, yet, we must realize that the key to a more balance existence is by allowing each of us to honor our true desires. But the question still remain, why do we have desires and where do they come from? My theory is, we have desire so that we can continue our growth. Because if we are not growing, our lives would be very boring. And where do they come from? I suggest that they don't come from us but from a source far much greater than we.

I know it sounds like a contradiction to freewill. Because if we do not choose them, then where is our freewill to choose our destiny? Honestly, I don't know much about who or what chooses our desires. However, somebody once wrote, "At the same time that we are the creators, writers and protagonist of our own movie, at that very same time, we play extra on a much bigger play."

How about if our desires are the script given to our souls for us to execute here on earth, while our freewill gives us the choice to either follow our script or choose another one? That being the case, makes perfect sense that we can choose whatever script we want. However, in my opinion, there is a catch. Following our own script may lead us to chaos, struggle, unnecessary challenges and pain, while following the script assigned to us by our souls leads us to happiness, joy, fulfillment, prosperity and wisdom.

In other words, does it matter who's script it is as long as we experience complete ecstasy in our lives? Think about it. So really, it is not whether we should follow our innate desires, but to ensure that our desires are not ego based. How can we differentiated? Simple. If a desire, while exciting as it may be, brings us peace and harmony, it is definitely spirit based desire. If on the other hand there is a sense of urgency, fear or impulse to it, it probably comes from ego.

The main premise is to understand that we came here to live a life filled with love, peace, health, happiness, fun, fulfillment, wisdom and prosperity. Our desires help as a guidance system for us to maneuver throughout the world in such manner that we can experience all of the things we truly want.

And we experience those things we desire by growing and expanding. And the only way we can grow and expand is by having new desires. See how this is a never ending cycle? So for us to continue feeling motivated to expand is by having new and bigger desires. And just so you know, I am not talking about acquiring more things. For all you know, your desire may be to give up all your possessions and spend the rest of your life traveling and serving people while it can also be having a huge mansion and all kinds of fun things to play with.

I can guarantee that Mother Theresa was the happiest woman on the faith of this earth by living a simple life dedicated to service and prayer while Sting is very happy and fulfilled creating music which generate millions and millions of dollars for him to enjoy.

A wonderful minister by the name of Bob Marshall once said; "Put your focus and energy on the things you want to create in your life. If what which you desire does not fall in what would be considered God's plan for you, not to be concerned because what will happen is, all that energy will be redirected toward something far much better that will fit the bigger plan."

Let's look at it this way, if you want a house on the beach, God has a mansion for you on a mountaintop overlooking the ocean. Just honor your feelings and desires and all of your dreams MUST come true!
