Purpose vs Outcome

We hear a lot about goals. In the spiritual community however goals seem to have a bad reputation because some think that having goals either limit our potential or gets in the way of some universal divine plan.

The truth about goals is, it gives us a sense of direction, something to strive for. The challenge is most people strive for illusionary things they seem are going to make them happy or complete them.

So what needs to be questioned is the "intention" behind the goal. For example, if I am trying to manifest whatever amount of dollars I think is going to bring me happiness, peace of mind, satisfaction, or fulfillment, etc., once that amount is achieved and I am faced with the painful reality that the changes I was expecting within myself did not come to pass, two things could happen. One, I either strive for more thinking that the reason I feel the way I do is because al though I have reached my financial goal that amount must not be enough, or second, I could end up being frustrated, miserable and depressed because I can't figure out why I feel the way I do even when I have achieved my goal.

Is that means that we should not have goals? I would not say that because I am a firm believer in having them. I paid a big price in the early stages of my life by not having them. By not having a sense of direction, I was drifting all over the place, always barely making ends meet to the point where my health began to deteriorate and my life was almost falling apart.

What I learned however is to differentiate between goals that are internally driven as opposed to goals motivated by external acquisition. The ones that we seek externally are almost always dictated by our ego, our small self, the part of us that is never satisfied and can never be satisfied no matter what we do. Internally driven goals on the other hand, these come from a completely different space. They are usually aligned with a higher purpose.

For example, writing my books is definitely a goal. However, that goal was inspired by my life's mission as opposed to motivated by me trying to become a well known author and sell books. It is fine to have financial goals as long as we understand that we use those finances to helps us live the live we deserve while at the same times allowing us to fulfill our mission.

We don't experience fulfillment as a result of "having more." We experience fulfillment by fulfilling our life's purpose. By expressing our talents and gifts and by sharing them with the rest of the world.

So ask yourself; What am I here for? What is my life's mission? And make that your goal or main goal. You will be directed as to what smaller steps to take which indeed will become a smaller goals within the bigger one. And as long as you are moving in that direction, watch the universe bless you with all the things you need in order to fulfill your dream(s).
