Salesman Have It Hard. Serviceman Have It Easy!

I was talking to a dear friend of mine after service few weeks ago and she made a comment in regards to what she feels passionate about. She owns her own business and is very successful at it. She was mentioning that even when her business is very lucrative, she feels a very strong calling to teach Yoga. I ask her, why would you want to teach Yoga? Her reply was, "because not only I love it, also because I want to be of service to others in such a way that will nurture their soul and enhance their well being." That was a very powerful answer because she was coming from a place of love and service as opposed to what is in it for me, which tends to be the average sales mentality.

As our conversation continued she was a little concern about the fact that there are a lot of Yoga teachers out there. Then this wonderful metaphor came through me; "Imagine yourself being in a dark forest filled with yoga teachers advertising themselves as the best, manipulating people to go to their classes. People are running all over the place looking for the best teacher, or what they would consider to be the best one and so forth. Some end up comfortable with the one they have, others disappointed always looking for a different one.

Then, up in the horizon, this brilliant light shines and everyone feels very attracted to the light. Teachers all over the place become scared and threatened because the beauty and brilliance of that light is making their customers leave their class. They try to manipulate people by offering discounts and specials. Even when some clients return just for a little while due to the strategic manipulative tactics employed by those ordinary Yoga teachers, soon their clients find themselves going back to that light."

I said to my friend that the light represent not her ability to teach the class, it represent her love for others. That love and that attitude of service is something that radiates from within, which makes people feel loved, valued, at peace and welcomed as opposed to manipulated or taken advantage of.

In life, when we carry that attitude of genuine love and service, there is an inner radiance that draws people towards us therefore creating an unlimited demand for our services with very little effort on our part. I must point out that it is very difficult to maintain and attitude of love and service when we are doing something we do not really enjoy. Yes, I know that we can make a choice in every moment as to how we feel regardless of circumstances. I have noticed thou, that it is much easier to maintain a more pleasant attitude when we are doing something we feel inspired by as opposed to something we do in order to support our lifestyle or just pay our bills.

The sense of fulfillment I am talking about has nothing to do with material acquisitions or earthly success which I am not discarding. I enjoy having nice things and having an affluent lifestyle. What I mean is that someone like Mother Theresa or Mahatma Gandhi can feel just as fulfilled as someone who owns a highly lucrative business.

I remember when I was visiting my stepbrother in Puerto Rico, we were driving along and in a conversation his girlfriend mentioned a day when she was stranded with some friends along the freeway and this man with a tow truck pulled over and helped them out. She said that he not only had a very pleasant attitude, also that he went the extra mile for them. She went on to say that her as well as all their friends picked up a handful of business cards from that man and began giving it to everyone they knew.

A salesman works hard to have you buy his product just to have to do it all over again with the next "victim." A serviceman see what it is that you need and supplies it to you with love and integrity. He is not surprised when referral calls comes to him from clients who want their friends and family, not only to benefit from your product(s) and/or services, also because they want their love ones to be treated with the same love, respect and integrity.

In conclusion what I said to my friend was to not concern herself with what needs to be done or how she would be provided but to come from a place of love. The details will be handled by the universe. We are all divine messengers and when we are willing to listen to our hearts and to express that love which is who we are, the universe will support us by providing us with all the necessary resources. We must remember that it is our Father's good pleasure to give us the kingdom,[Luke 12:32], and not to have us struggle for it.

Do what you really enjoy in life. Always remembering that your call in life is to create a space where we can all feel loved, nurtured and happy. And what a great gift God has given us by allowing us to created a much better and brighter world for others while we do in a loving manner what we feel more inspired by. Life is not only easy, life is good!
